Announcing Woven Blending Rooms in Leith

We've spent the last five years working to meaningfully bring whisky blending back to Leith ; the neighbourhood where it was perfected nearly 200 years ago. Today we're announcing two things: the launch of the Woven Blending Rooms experience at Browns of Leith, and our plans to build Leith's first purpose-built whisky blending facility in over a century, which we believe to be the single largest investment in whisky blending infrastructure in Leith since the early 20th century.

The Experience: Bookings open June 1st.

Every Thursday (with more dates added to meet demand) we're running two-hour blending workshops at Browns of Leith, guided by Pete Allison, our Co-Founder and Whisky Maker. We're pitching these as a hands on, participatory experience. No scripts, no restrictions - actual whisky making using the same samples and techniques we use to make our blends.

You start with a highball at Haze — The specialist wine and coffee bar within Browns of Leith. Then you move through to our Blending Rooms to taste the same components we use when building our range. Five key flavour blocks. Individual component whiskies, not finished blends.

Then, after a little bit of guidance from Pete, You're set free to experiment. You adjust ratios. You find the balance that works for you. Then you bottle it, label it, and take home your own 100ml creation. The experience closes with a farewell cocktail.

You make it. You take it. You leave with whisky you made, that simply didn't exist the moment before you walked in.

Why Blending Rooms?

Blending gets presented like an occult secret. We think anyone can learn to build a blend with the right guidance, and we've already seen people create incredible whiskies in our early sessions.

Most whisky experiences invite you to watch, listen, but don't touch. We're opening the door and letting you blend using the same components and techniques we use across our range.

Pete puts it plainly: "The best thing about any craft is rolling up your sleeves and getting stuck in. That's what we want to offer in whisky."

By putting the blending process in the hands of curious people and proving they too can use their judgement to build something delicious, we're hoping to break down the barriers the whisky industry has built around its craft.

The Bigger Plan: A Purpose-Built Blending Facility

The Blending Rooms are phase one. In 2027, we're building out three other rooms to complete the Woven Blending Rooms space at Browns of Leith.

Two floors. Full, end-to-end production under one roof in the heart of Leith's shore area. Plans include a state of the art Blending area, storage for experimental projects, a tasting room, and lounge bar. We believe this to be the largest investment in whisky blending infrastructure in Leith since the neighbourhood was Scotland's whisky capital in the 19th century.

"Bringing production in-house is a game changer. We've been reinstating lost traditions and experimenting with techniques from outside industrial blending — but we've been doing it on borrowed time in other people's facilities. Our own space means we can push boundaries and accelerate innovation on our own terms." Pete Allison, Woven Co Founder

This is where Woven's entire operation will be based from. And it's where we'll continue proving that Leith — the town that taught the world how to blend still has something to say about where whisky goes next.

Browns of Leith: The Right Home

Browns of Leith opened late last year in the former George Brown & Sons warehouse, once a cornerstone of Leith's trading heritage. The building has been brought back to life by a new generation of independent makers: Civerinos, ShrimpWreck, Haze, and now Woven.

Gunnar Groves-Raines, Founder of Browns of Leith, said it clearly: "With over a century of industry and production on the Shore, Brown's is a perfect home for Woven's bright, contemporary approach to the traditional craft of whisky making and blending."

We agree. Leith perfected blended whisky nearly 200 years ago. From here, Scotch whisky conquered the world. For the past five years, Woven has worked to bring the craft of blending back to the neighbourhood where it first became global.

Now we're building the next chapter — and you can be part of it from the start.
