Introducing Woven Highballs

MAKING HIGHBALLS A DRINK WORTH TALKING ABOUT

Some drinks transcend the glass and become icons. The Martini. The Negroni. The Spritz. Even the humble G&T. Simple formulas, elevated through ritual and precision.

The Highball belongs in this company.

Like the Martini, it’s about clarity—every detail matters: temperature, dilution, garnish.
Like the Negroni, it’s a study in balance—bold yet refreshing, complex yet effortless.
Like the Spritz, it thrives in the moment—social, uplifting, repeatable.
Like the Gin & Tonic, it has the power to reshape drinking culture. The G&T’s reinvention over the last decade changed the global drinks culture. That happened through better ingredients, better technique, and a deeper appreciation of what makes the drink shine. Highballs are poised for the same evolution.

With its bold flavours and depth of flavour, whisky is a wonderful spirit for mixing. Cocktail culture has always embraced whisky, but often, it's been American whisky that takes centre stage. The simple reason for this is that cocktail culture was an American export, and so most of the early cocktail guides featured American Whiskey. Scotch whisky, in particular, has been held back by outdated conventions and a sort of industry-wide mistrust that there's any potential to enhance the contents of the bottle after the cork has been inserted. The debate around Scotch whisky isn’t how to mix it—it’s whether we should mix it at all.

It baffles us how rich the drinks culture around Scotch is, yet its usability is defined by a culture of restriction. The rules are old, and the result is stagnation. It’s time to break free. Whisky should be celebrated for its versatility, not confined by arbitrary rules.

There’s a mystique to the Highball. The elegant pour, the ice stacking, the effervescence as whisky meets mixer. The artistry of the garnish. It’s a drink that rewards care and attention. A showcase of a bartender’s craft—where the simplest serves demand the highest skill.

The difference between a good Highball and a great one is in the details—details that shine brightest in a bar, where technique, atmosphere, and hospitality come together to create something greater than the sum of its parts.

We believe that Whisky is at a crossroads. The global craft distilling movement has brought whisky to new places, and bars are carrying broader ranges than ever. Yet, the industry clings to old patterns—focusing on tasting notes and distillery stories instead of empowering bartenders to create experiences people actually want to drink. Right now, in bars and homes around the world, whisky is missing its moment.

Last week, we launched Woven Highballs - a movement built around trying to create and celebrate modern highball culture in the UK. See what we got up to below.

HIGHBALLS ARE COMING

Why can't whisky speak through fresh, exciting whisky serves, not just the old standards? Whisky has relevance far beyond the after-dinner drink or special occasion. It is a supremely versatile spirit with the potential to delight in all sorts of different ways and during all sorts of different occasions.

IT BEGINS IN THE BARS

For us, whisky started in bars. There’s something magical about these spaces—a place where discovery happens. Bartenders don’t just serve drinks; they create experiences. These experiences made us fall in love with whisky, and it’s what keeps us coming back. Whisky is a world of endless stories, flavours, and moments to share.

Over the next few months, we're going to be partnering with some of the UK's best bars around Woven Highballs. Expect guides on how to make your own, where to experience the best Highballs and lots of other ways you can get involved.
