The whisky sour is perhaps the ultimate classic cocktail. It has ridden more ups and downs in cocktail trends than most and stands as proud today as it did in the heyday of cocktail culture. Classic though it is; it has also proved extremely versatile as a recipe with countless riffs ranging from bourbon as the base to Scotch, and delicious peaty variants like the modern classic Penicillin cocktail. This perhaps, goes some way to explaining its enduring popularity.
