We made this whisky for Edinburgh. The Blending City.

A city of two halves, old and new, side by side. We built the blend the same way. The depth of the Old Town, the polish of the New. Complex malt whiskies layered around North British, the grain distillery that has sat at the heart of famous blends since 1885 and scents the whole city when the wind turns.

Rich and subtly sweet, with caramel, dark fruit, deep malt and a subtle smoky finish. A modern whisky that drinks like the long-lost blends the city was built on.

HOMEMADE is about where we're from. Usually that means Leith. This one steps back a few streets.

Edinburgh is two towns that are hugely different, yet totally connected. The Old Town stacked and tangled. The New Town ruled and squared. Together, they make Edinburgh. That tension - the organic way they link is the thing people come here to see.

A CITY BUILT BY BLENDERS

In 1885 a group of independent blenders got tired of buying grain whisky from a monopoly. So they built their own distillery. North British, out at Gorgie. Usher, Sanderson, Crabbie, Watson. Iconic names who helped build Edinburgh as 'the blending city. North British Distillery was blenders building for blenders.

Nearly 140 years on, we're blenders in the same city, working with the same grain. We're new, attempting to revive the category they created.

THE BLEND

North British at the core. The backbone under most of the whisky that made this city's name, and the backbone here.

Rich sherried Speyside over the top. Dark fruit and weight. A little peat underneath, the kind of smoke that drifts down the hill to the shore when the wind sits right.

Precise and laid out neatly in the way the New Town is precise. Labyrinthine in the way the Old Town is. This is flavour and texture working together.

THE LABEL

We connected with Edinburgh artist Amy Dennis for the artwork that adorns the bottle. She paints the east coast of Scotland, building her surfaces in pigmented jesmonite, laying colour down in thin layers, then sanding and inscribing back into the panel. Detail on detail. The layered results reminded us of our own craft, but captured the old and new of Edinburgh in a unique fashion.

The piece on this bottle is Edinburgh No. 3. It runs from the volcanic rock of Arthur's Seat to the spires of the Old Town, across the grid of the New Town, down to Leith in the foreground.
